"Get ready to be impressed." She is going to love this.
They walked up to the doorman at the entrance. Sofia presented her membership card. He granted them entrance to the Aurora Night Club by opening the door for them.
As they walked into the club, Sofia glanced at Marla to see her reaction.
"Sofia, this is… is…" Wow! I’ve never seen anything like…
"You can close your mouth now.” Your expression is so… priceless!
"Evie's the one you don't want to underestimate. Looks sweet, doesn't she? Don't let that fool you." Jon glanced at Evie and smiled. "She's more dangerous than I am." If he only knew just how lethal she is… you don’t mess with her.
Evie rolled her eyes. "Jon, stop it." You’re being over dramatic.
"Most of the intricate surveillance you have... came from her brain." And then some.
"Then her brain saved mine three years ago. So, Evie, I owe you another sincere thank you. You saved my life that night."
"Are you coming to the meeting?" asked Ethan. Why is she still upset?
Sofia hesitated. Breathe. “Yes… I will come… once I finish this last part.” If only everyone would leave!
Ethan took a step closer toward Sofia. She’s so stubborn…
Then—she muttered under her breath: “Maybe I can actually paint if everyone else is at the meeting.” Oh crap. I said it out loud. Damn. Too late. Why do I keep doing that? Just paint and maybe they’ll leave. Sofia raised her brush and painted one black stroke.
“I don’t need saving.” I just need...just... what?
“I know... but if you ever do... I’ll be there... until the end.” There... I said it. Will she believe me?
She looked at him. Oh, my God... he’s... different. He’s trying to give more instead of manipulating me. He’s... he is offering to be my... partner... equals? He’s thinking of me... and not...
“Sofia, what’s on your mind? Talk to me.” Please talk to me.
Sofia stepped forward slowly. She stopped just in front of him. “I’m still figuring it out.”
